7 Tips for Moving

Senior Couple Moving House

Moving is exciting! The possibilities of a new home or workspace can be great fun to think about, and it’s easy to get carried away dreaming about how your new bedroom will look, the living room décor you want to buy, or the perfect ay to set up your desk for maximum Zen and productivity.

However, many people can also find moving time pretty stressful. There can be boxes to pack, utilities to disconnect (and reconnect), addresses to change, lots to do! That’s why it’s important to ensure the process is as smooth as possible, without any unnecessary, unneeded additional stress.

A Smooth Move Removals aim to make this process smooth and simple, so you can focus on the excitement of the move! We are local, Gold Coast removalists with a team experiences in removal jobs of all sizes. A family-owned and operated business, A Smooth Move Removals, Gold Coast offers a range of services, including: furniture removals, pre-packing services, removals for apartments, removals for houses, supplying packing materials and boxes, and pre-packing service.

Below, we’ve outlined seven tips that could help you during your move.

Label boxes based on the room the items belong in

Rather than labelling boxes with just the items contained within them, try labelling them based on the room you would like them to go in in their new place. This can help you determine how much is going in each room, make the unpacking simpler, and help removalists to know where to put your items once they arrive. Be sure to label boxes clearly, on the top of the box.

Pack early

Scrambling to pack on the day of moving can make the day more stressful, and can also make the day go on for longer than it needs to. Once you have your move-out day organised, start packing non-essential items that you use infrequently away into boxes. As the day gets closer, pack more commonly-used items. If you’re worried you might need these objects, you can always keep the boxes un-sealed until the day before moving.

Bring in help for packing

If you’re busy and feel like you won’t have time to get all of the packing done on your own, you might consider reaching out to friends and family to lend a hand. Offer to buy them dinner, or a bottle of wine for their time, of course! Alternatively, you can bring in specialists to lend a hand. At A Smooth Move Removals, Gold Coast, we offer pre-packing services at affordable prices, and are more than happy to take the hassle off your hands.

Call internet and utilities early

Tasks such as having the internet disconnected and relocated to your new place can take a while to process, so it’s best to do this with plenty of time before your moving day. Call your internet and electricity providers early to ensure your services are connected when you move. These tasks can be easy to forget in the flurry of moving, so be sure to write them down if you’re someone with tendency to be a tad forgetful.

Write down everything that needs to be done

Writing down all the tasks that need to be done before the move can help to ensure you don’t forget anything important. This includes anything from booking removalists, to organising bond cleaners, to contacting your internet provider. Keep these in a notepad and tick them off as you go. You can also keep sections to compare quotes you receive, and the dates services are occurring.

Use strong, sturdy boxes

When packing, use boxes that are strong and sturdy, rather than ones that have moved with you many times and are starting to fall apart! Your items are important, and it’s best to pack them in boxes that have the best chance of surviving the move and keeping them safe. At A Smooth Move Removals, Gold Coast, we can provide you quality packing materials and boxes if you’re looking for products to help with your move.

Keep a bag of essential items with you

Make sure you keep the essential items separate to the items you’re packing into boxes. A good way to do this is to have a bag or backpack that you can keep with you on moving day and take into your new place. Essentials can include your mobile phone and charger, toothbrush and toothpaste, a water bottle, some easy food, a pair of pyjamas, and a spare pair of clothes. Having items you can easily access can make the first night after moving easier, as you may not wish to unpack straight away!

Moving time doesn’t have to be a time of dread! We hope our tips can help you get ready for this new, exciting chapter in your life.
